About the Author
Vivencio R. Jose is the author of several books and monographs, including The Rise and Fall of Antonio Luna, which became the basis for the acclaimed 2015 film “Heneral Luna.” His columns have appeared in both national and Asian newspapers. He has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations University (Tokyo) and UNESCO (Paris). Dr. Jose earned degrees in A.B. (English), M.A (Comparative Literature), and Ph.D. (Philippine Studies), all from the University of the Philippines, where he taught and worked as Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents (1993–1995). He also has served as Director of the University’s Ph.D. Philippine Studies Program, Director of the U.P. Press, Chairman of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, and Dean of the College of Arts and Letters. Wrote Dr. Jose about his favorite subject, “Antonio Luna was a humanist, musician, sportsman, lover, scientist, and soldier—a true officer and a gentleman who will live on as an ideal for our youth.” The author lives in Quezon City
